Best substrate?

I got a leopard gecko today from a lady who used sand in the tank. From what I've read on here, sand is not good. Are paper towels okay? I was thinking of changing the sand to paper towels but I'm afraid it'd be too much of a change for the gecko.

What do you think I should do?

Edit: Forgot to say, the gecko is a year and a half old, if that helps. :]

You can change the substrate to paper towel. Your gecko will get used to it within a couple days.

You should get repti carpet. Here are the pros and cons.

PROS- it is natural looking and they can not digest it.

CONS- they can sometimes get there mouth stuck on it when they eat

No loose substrate, the safest and cheapest as im sure most would agree is paper towels.

If you want a more visually pleasing natural look then slate or tiles is good.
