This evening my fiancé got a message from an international trucker which he is friends with. That trucker was in Egypt a few weeks ago and after that he went to Ivory Coast. No problem...

He had to ride for a few weeks to get back to The Netherlands and unloaded his truck somewhere around our town. He than found a very small animal hidden in a piece of wood. It's a Turkish house gecko and had to be in there for the past four weeks i guess. Now my fiancé went to get him and retrieved the gecko so that we can take care of him. The poor guy would probably die if we wouldn't...

So we've named him "Bikkel" what would mean something like "tough guy/girl" in English and he is a bit skinny and extremely shy after traveling thousands of kilometers.

But now we have some questions, so that we can give him/her a bright future. Considering bringing him back to his own habitat would be kind of impossible... We know the temperture, RV and food, but still..

- What substrate would be best? We now use white sand, which is mostly used for making cement. it holds the RV high, which is perfect and he can dig holes in it too without collapsing. But maybe coconut substrate would be better?

- Considering they live in caves, houses, kliffs, ruins and other places full of hiding places.. Wouldn't it be awesome to give him a viv of 40 inches wide and 20 inches deep and high with a huge pile of stapled rocks with hiding places, a few places to warm up and a bunch of wood? Or what kind of interiour?

- Do you have some pictures of terariums used for hemidactylus turcicus? So that we can get some inspiration and take a look at how you guys house them :)

I will make a few pictures for you give when having a new terrarium for this poor little guy from Africa :)

Thanks! :D
Apparently a friend of my (also gecko breeder) is friends with Hervé Saint-Dizier on Facebook so i've sent him a friend request. Hope he will accept so that i can have some answers on this one :) I have red the whole article though, never thought they were really that hard to get information about.
