I am using this spotlamp holder:
http://www.petsathome.com/shop/prore...p-holder-87509

And using or trying to use this bulb:
http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products..._heat_lamp.php

I am using a heatmat for the source of heat, so this light isnt really for heat, only reason I am using it is for my own benefit so I can see when its dark

Problem is the first one bulb I tried didnt work at all, so the pet shop replaced it for me and then the 2nd one did work but only for about 4 hours then all of a sudden is just stopped working...

Duno what to do, keep trying my luck with these bulbs.. 3rd time lucky maybe, or stop wasting my time and try an alternative if anyone knows of any

Did you check what wattage the fixture is for? You may have been putting in too high wattage. Try the regular ceramic base clamp lamps. They're fine.

If you are using the light for your benefit and not a heat source, why wouldn't you just use a normal 40 watt bulb. The light from the 40 watt bulb would probably be easier on the Leos eyes vs a heat bulb (which are usually very bright). Also the normal bulbs are usually a lot cheaper than a heat bulb.

It could be wattage if the wattage is fine it could be the oil from your fingers.if you touch these bulbs with your fingers when you install them the oil from your fingers gets on the bulb and for what ever reason they burn out much faster. I have had lots of experience with this and seems to hold true. If I use rubber gloves to install them they last months, if I use my hand it seems to last only weeks.

Well weeks is better than a couple of hours, I would be quite happy with weeks at this point lol.
Have my 4th bulb right now and a replacement 2nd holder, before I switch on though I have been told these holders/bulbs are designed to be used on their side and not dangling down like I have been doing. Whether or not it will make a difference cannot be guranteed but its worth a go, but trying to find something to stick the holder in position to the vivarium first.

If you actually read the link I posted then you would know the bulb I have been using is a 15 watt blue lamp, which is said to cause minimum disturbance to the geckos.
This is the last attempt anyway, once I position and secure the holder if it blows again, I am getting my money back and getting L.E.D's instead
