Black Carpeting

What is so terrible about black carpeting that makes even the carpet company look at you funny when you say you want it installed?
The wife is complaining that she wants new carpeting installed in the bedroom. I say if we put in new carpeting, I want it to be black and we can repaint the walls changing them from off white to bright white.
She is not thrilled.
Does anyone have black carpeting in a room? If so, do you have a photo I could use to show her it's not a crazy idea?
I think I am compromising here. She wants a new carpet and I agreed as long as it was black.

I think black would be easy to hide stains, but it will definitely make the room appear smaller.

Can't say I've ever had black carpet, but I have had black walls before and it certainly makes the room look ten times smaller :main_laugh:

My main concern with black carpet and white walls is... what color is the furniture in that room? Not all shades of wood will look good in a room with those colors. A light wood would probably look pretty nice.

Another thing to think about is the fact that if you go with black carpet, you're going to be stuck with a black and white theme in that room for quite a few years, as it's a bit more expensive to replace carpet than it is to repaint the walls.

Maybe you guys could try a large rug first, to make sure that you do want carpet and that you do really want that color.

My favorite color is black......that being said, I haven't had black wall-to-wall installed, but have had lots of experience with black area rugs (we have hardwood floors).

On the plus side, it's very good at not showing dirt/stains. On the negative side, it's terrible for showing any kind of lint! Just think....walk across the black carpet in white socks....yikes! You'll know it! You get all these little fuzzies and if you own 'furpets', lighter-colored dog and cat hair shows hella bad.

Very cool idea, though! I think it would look great!

Totally agree with Mari on this one!! Our favorite "color" is black as well

remember that that will bring down the value of your house if you ever try to sell it with black carpeting

haha I tried to google it for you, but I am too lazy to keep looking.. My best advice (although it isn't really the best) is try in on the Sims! Use the Sims 2 & you could actually have a good idea of what it might look like, especially if you go with furniture that you have that's similar to that in the game! (It sounds weird, but seriously, if you need to switch around a room, it's like a virtual room creator)
