Kilikina is about 7 months old, and eats crickets and mealworms. my roommate (who doesn't have a leo) said kiki will start needing to eat large black crickets soon. her boyfriend has an adult leo, and she said he says he has to feed her black crickets. however.. i've never read anything on here or anywhere else about that. what do y'all think?

the big black crckets have the herd exo skeleton and its hard to digest and they are poor in nutrients and the stuff your leo needs i wouldnt feed them just stay with the normal crickets and mealworms

I have seen those big black crickets before, they look very fiesty and I will never want to deal with it! I reckon roaches (e.g. dubia) are better choice.

in my thoughts
Those black crickets are wild around here and they are like 10X more noisier than the normal brown ones. They also look hideous and feisty LOL.

this is sort of off topic, but my uncle used to have a pet tarantula and he said he tried to feed it black crickets before, and it would go up to one like it was going to eat it and then run away. i just thought it was kind of funny.

In my experience the black ones are the ones you catch in your backyard- be careful they don't have pesticides or fertilisers on them.

Impaction?

Leopard geckos in the wild eat all kinds of hard shelled beetles. So crickets are no big deal for them. If you are having problems with your gecko as far as getting impacted then you are not supplying a suitable environment for them to be able to metabolize their food or are dealing with a very sick animal.
