Blind and not shedding properly

My leopard gecko, Keiji, is 9 years old and is going blind. He had a prolapsed hemipein a few months ago that was infected, and lost a lot of weight then. He recovered with some antibiotics from the vet, but lost half of his tail mass. It's winter, so he doesn't generally eat as much, but he is so thin! He has little enery, and can't see crickets or move fast enough to catch them. I've been feeding him waxworms and mealworms, and leading him to his food dish with a laser pointer. He started shedding a week ago, and there is still dead skin on his mouth and over one eye. When he sheds, he doesn't eat. I've squirted him, raised the humidity some, and even given him a bath to no avail.

I'm really, really worried about him, and would welcome all advice on how to help him. I don't want to take him to the vet right now because it is SO cold outside, and I would have a lot of trouble keeping him warm enough on the way.

Thanks in advance! ~Lissa

first i would be more worried about his weight, And to think he has worms wouldn't be out of the Question so if he keeps going down hill you will Need to get him to a vet. I would feed him wax worms Coated in Rep-Cal Calcium, i have happen to use the Liquid drops by t-rex and had some amazing success with them they also sell a Electrolyte formula And a pure D3 it might even help you more! see if he doesn't regain some energy with that. as for the shed, i would let him lay in warm water try getting a Q-tip and removing it. mist down the cage afterward, Keep trying, Any photos of your gecko Keiji will help if we can see how "bad" of state his in, Plus to get a good look at his eye. good luck

Have you tried taking a moist cue tip to the unshed skin? It is especially effective if you've bathed/soaked him and then gently rub the skin with the cue tip to ease it off.

If he is eating some of the shed then he might not be hungry so thats why he isnt eating.

Is he getting to his water ok? Its possible he could be dehydrated and that is why he isnt eating as much.

A photo might be helpful.

Good luck and I hope your guy gets better!
