Hey guys i just got a new tremper albino raptor yesterday and i currently have him in a 10 gallon tank for quarintine. A little after i brought him home i noticed he has a problem seeing. He keeps bumping into stuff in the tank and when he walks he licks and smells the floor bumping into stuff.

Is this common in albinos??

He also has those red snake eyes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is more common in albinos I believe, but any gecko can go blind, do you know of any problems from the previous owner?

Also do you have any sort of light on the tank, be it uv or not.

yes i have lighting in the tank a floresent 15 watt i don't think it would do much.

i also have a under tank heat mat.

And i got him from a local breeder.

Well lighting in a geckos enclosure can often make them wince and not really see properly, seeing as you have a tremper eclipse, albinos eyes are MUCH more sensitive to light, try removing the light for a while (you shouldn't really need it anyways unless your house gets below 70F at night) and see how he/she does.

Albinos are extremely sensitive to light, so that is why you are seeing him bump into things and whatnot. He is probably not blind, but more blinded by the light. I have an albino male that does the same thing, and I asked the same question. lol.

I would take that out. It doesn't make a difference and can really benefit your gecko.

I agree with all the above advice...if you're still seeing problems after discontinuing the light cycles, you can try covering his cage with the dull side of aluminum foil, so he's in the dark most of the time.

Even if it's fairly overcast, and just a hint of light is coming in through the crack of the shades, my albino hides until after sundown. Albinos are kinda like I've heard leos sarcastically described: "little vampires" lol.

It could be because he is still a bit stressed from shipping and the new environment. When my raptor and DB first arrived home with me, both of them bump into things while they check out their new tank; I too thought they might have eye sight problem. But after 1 or 2 days, when they're settled (or they got used to the lighting condition of the room), they no longer bump into things.

That might be the case but I would still remove the light if he continues.

Yep, they don't usually survive long in the wild.
