Hi everyone,

A few months ago I began to see that Bling's front legs were starting to turn out ward. I know that he DOES have MBD.
The reson for his MBD is because, I did not see the experation date on his Calcium bottle that you put on the crickets, well come to find out that it expired almost one year ago!! So I threw that one away...

Here is my question, I have been giving Bling a good, non expired calcium suppliment, If I keep on doing this, will his MBD get better?? Or will it not help at all..?

My mom and I both don't want to take an $15.99 gecko to the vet. Cuase his bill will prob be over $100.

What can I do to help him?!

Should I buy an UVB light and take every thing out of his cage and let him have the UVB for about 2 hourse a day? Or what should I do. (Taking out every thing in his cage, so he has nothing to hide be hind...)

Thanks!

Well, when you buy a pet, you are responsible for its well being. Therefore if a vet is needed, you should be responsible enough to take it, no matter how much the actual animal costs. I had to do the same thing, and it turns out that I had to spend alot of money to put it to sleep(She was to far gone), but it was totaly worth the money.

I agree with Jasen. Right now, I am deciding whether or not my male needs to go. My vet charges 45 dollars just walk in the door. If i take him it will be my money I am spending. If he really does have the signs of MBD you need to have him on some liquid calcium.

If MBD IF detected early enough using the new unexpired calcium, dust your feeders 3 times a week with calcium , calcium with D3 and Herpivite will help. Liquid calcium you can get from the vet is also very good. Also find and feed him Phoenix worms. Phoenix worms are a fly larver feeder that is high in calcium. I would feed Phoenix worms 2 times a week.

Thank you so much Crash! I will start giving him calcium dust 3 times a week. I hope it will help Bling out...

See the picture, his MBD is still in the early stages, right?

Emma leopard geckos do not need UVB. I think you caught the MBD early enough. You just have to treat MBD very aggressively. I had my very first shtbct pass away not long ago from MBD. In her case, she just could not proscess the calcium. I did everything I stated above and calcium drops but it did not work. She just kept getting worste and worste. The only bad part was she passed away on my Birthday. Her vet appointment was the day after my birthday to put her to sleep. I wish you alot of good luck and a speedy recovery for Bling.

With the dustings and liquid calcium Bling should have almost a 100% full recovery. But you need to start the liquid calium ASAP. The vet with give you the correct dosage and info for the liquid calcium.

Okay. I have NO reptile vet near me at all though.

My local vet said he knows very little about reptiles, but will cheak them out if they have problems..

Should I get my mom to make an appontment, or would it just be a waste of money?
He don't know much...

You need to get the liquid calcium somehow. Any vet can prescribe it.

Are you sure it is MBD? You said you didn't want to go to a vet, so how are you so sure? Could the leg just been broken and not healed ok, or are there any other options? I'm always very careful with treating an animal for something, without a waterproof diagnosis. If you treat an animal for something that's not the problem, you'll only make it worse!

In case it is MBD; just give it calcium and vit. D3. When I read your post, I don't think the MBD is caused by lack of calcium, but by lack of vit. D3. Calcium doesn't have an expiration date (as all other minerals) but vitamins have!! Just give the animal the dosage as stated earlier. I would NOT use UVB, since a patternless albino (if I'm not mistaking, looks like a patty albino to me in the picture) could suffer from that (no melanin in the skin what so ever). Keep us informed please...

Greets,

Stevie

ps. Don't give it to much vit. D3, because that would make the MBD only worse...

DO NOT USE UVB LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! you will burn him severely ... leo's are nocturnal.(day sleepers) also like stated above he is your responsibility take him to the vet. i don't mean to be harsh. your little guy depends on you!!!. just like a dog or cat he can't take care of himself so thats what were for.

I just found out taht my current calcium suppliment with D3 has too expired! The date that it expired was around last month..

My mom is not going back up to the pet store untill next weeked... so I will not have new calcium untill next week. =[

For some reason my mom gets mad if my reptiles get sick or need new thing, she acts like I did it on purpose.
It's dumb!

Thanks again everyone!
