Hi guys,
Alright... So in the past few weeks here is what I have noticed with my 4 year old Leopard Gecko:
- Decreased appetite (Yet this is hard to pin down because his appetite often drops this time of year due to temp and light changes)
- VARIABLE (meaning sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't) runny stool with blood. Generally however, the stool is solid/lumpy with some blood mixed in
- generally she seems alert and well. She does eat from time to time (about how much she normally does during the winter)
A good friend of mine said it's probably parasites. Especially since I rotate her through crickets and super worms that I know sometimes get to her feces when they escape in her cage. He said if it was gastroenteritis she would have a runny stool all the time.
Tonight I have him the first dose of panacur (that I bought online) because frankly, I'm struggling really bad financially right now and can't afford to wait 4 weeks for a vet... If I didn't do this he would have to wait 4 weeks. It's my best bet and I did a lot of research and got correct dosing for his weight.
What can I expect? How long generally will the stools take to normalize? Will I notice anything different?
I've also cleaned the cage very well and am administering a probiotic in addition to vigilantly checking heat. This is to minimize the risk of a secondary infection.
Am I doing things right? Anything else you could add or help me with?
Thanks guys and please don't criticize me for the vet thing. Last year I spent $200+ on vet visits for him but right now am in a bind.
Best,
Frank
