Does anyone know about the care and nature of the Blue-Tongued Skink? I know what to feed them(kitten food blended with lettuce) but is there anything esle I should know? I am reptile-sitting for 6 weeks and I want the best for the skink. Any reccomendations or useful info? Anything would be appreciated. Also, what is their handling limit? Btw, what are the measurements of a 30 gal. tank? I dont need hight, just L & W.
Thanks!
Emily

Yah, that site is great. My fiance uses that site for info on caring for her BTS and her skink has gotten pretty big and looks great.

I agree that site rocks! I have been a member of BTS.net, they are kind and give you all the help you need!

BTW, I am BlueyBabe on there.. ;)

Well most of what you need to know IS on that site. The one thing they didn't tell me on that site is that until he/she gets used to you ... they will poop on you just about every time you pick them up.

And they poop/pee a lot!! its amazing how much liquid/poop they hold in their body.

I do agree, BTS do poop and pee alot! And when they do it smells so bad, makes you wanna barf, it's nasty!

They are good cuddle buddies, so if you want to kick back and watch tv, then an BTS is a perfect tv bud. ;) Hershal is my cuddliy bug!

A few basic tips

Always have fresh water in the enclosure

Watch the heat-Bluey's can die from over heating

They can eat many of the same greens/veggies that you would feed a Beardie and I mix super worms in with the green/veggies

They love to burrow and it is important that they be provided with a safe substrate for doing so

Cat or dog food is OK as long as long as you are offering veggies and greens too

hope this helps

This one has always been on a diet of cat food mixed with lettuce in a blender. Is it safe to feed him some of my supers if the owner says ok? What other veggies and stuff can they eat?

Yea, they can have supers. What do you mean. Super worms? Then yea.

They eat;
raw hamburger
dandilion greens (no iceberg lettuc, pretty much just water)
green beans
squash
apples
grapes (small amounts)
bananas (Hershal's fav food)
carrots (small amounts cut up)
eggs (raw or cooked)
Pinki mice (If they will eat it, Hershal hates e'm)

This poor skink has only been living on cat food mixed with lettuce. That is not good. They should have a varity of all diff types of foods. I feel so bad for that skink. You should have a chat with that skink's owner and try to get him on a better diet....

A awsome care sheet is on BlueTongueSkinks.net. The care sheet is up top. It says care sheet. When you get to the care sheet scroll down and it will give you a huge list of veggies and fruits they can have. :)

Hope I helped some. :)
