Bowl Feeding...

Ive had my leo for a few weeks now, mainly feeding her mealworms with a bunch of other stuff on occasion (waxworms, crickets, roaches).

Ive seen that most people that feed meal worms just leave them in a bowl. Will my leo start doing that as she gets older?

At the moment i virtually have to drop a mealworm in front of her so she eats it. She mumches down Crickets and roaches because the move about a lot.

So, any tips to get her feeding from a bowl? or shall i not feed her for a day and leave a bowl of mealworms in there and see if she finds them?

Thanks

This is what I would do. I would put some in a bowl, and just leave her alone. With all of my babies I just started putting them in a bowl as soon as they had their first shed. They all took to it well, but I would bet she will take to it as well. Plus they move around some in the bowl.

i've tried switching to bowls but my male just waits & follows my hand, whereever it goes.
my female wouldn't take to bowl feeding either. i have always used the same method as you. dropping them in front of her one at a time.
i've left a bowl in with here for several days with now sign of her eating of them. she is now almost 8months old. so i had to switch back to just droping them in one at a time.

I hope you have success getting yours to eat from a bowl though :)

Ive been hand feeding my leo for 2 years! She sucks at eating mealworms and it will often take her several minutes of pushing it around the floor or bowl until she can get ahold of it. Im switching to roaches soon.

Mine took to the bowl pretty well - I do have it positioned so that she can get at it from two "high spots" (the top of one of the hides, which is basically a flipped log, and the side of the water dish which is one of those exoterra rock-bowl things) - that seems to have helped.

I've also heard of people half-burying the bowl so the leo is above it when they walk around - that or a clear bowl will let them see the food moving around, which should get them hunting :)

Thanks for all the comments, i put 15 in a bowl with some carrot to keep them moving, left them over night last night and there are still 15!

Might take some time i suppose, will try showing them to her later on if she doesn't eat

It helps alot to have a clear glass bowl that they can see through.
Otherwise, they may never know the worms are in there.

Also, make sure you put the bowl on the coolest area so you dont kill
your mealies with heat.

I used to use a black ash tray as a bowl. To make sure my leo knew mealies were there I would make sure she was around when I added them and get her attention. Soon she'd run up to it a chow down. I also never moved the dish.

Yeah, it is important to not move stuff around once your leo knows the layout. Did you find a clear glass bowl to switch to?
