Wow. I haven't been on in awhile, life has been in the way. I was searching around to base some current prices and I can't believe some of the key breeders who are out now. I'm just a little amazed.

Over the past few years there were breeders who had specific lines they were known for and were key factors in establishing certain lines. Yes there are breeders who've purchased those lines and are breeding them, but the founders, were people who made those lines what they were through years of dedication and hard work.
Using Robin :) as an example-she was not breeding when I started, but was taking a break. I know her from her R2 line, and now she is re entering the scene so to say. I'm excited to see what she produces.
So those key breeders who went out over the past 2 years, maybe are taking a break and will be back later, but maybe not. I'm saying I was a bit surprised at how many stopped at around the same time. It was like a domino effect.
Does that make any more sense?

That's it everyone, let's either jack up the prices of leo to keep everyone in business...or get millions of more people interested in leopard geckos.

Just out of curiosity, what is the definition of a 'breeder'??? Does someone who produces several dozen offspring per year with a website constitute as a breeder? Would you say they are a small scale breeder vs. a large scale breeder? There are so many people calling themselves "breeders" just because they produce a few geckos and have a website. I really don't consider myself a "breeder", more like a hardcore hobbyist that produces geckos? I've produced hundreds if not thousands of geckos in the last decade plus, but they are not considered any source of income- just a hobby! Think that makes a HUGE difference between who stays around and who "gets out".

My idea of a breeder is much more large scale- producing thousands of leopard geckos per year and their livelihood or source of income is largely due to their production of animals. Just my opinion.

An example of a large scale "breeder" that left the industry would be Denice from Golden Gecko.
