About 2 weeks ago I noticed my female (who has bred before at geckoboa)was ovulating I put my male (first time breeder)in with her and he bit her tail and vibrated his but I did not see any breeding so I left him in for about a week, then took out the male because the females ovulations were not growing. Now after about 1 week of him being out of the cage her ovulation a are growing I don't think they're eggs though. Should I put the male back in with her to breed again.

This is my first season, but I have read several times that many people recommend another mating about a week after the first mating (and "every so often" after that).

I would like to know how "every so often" they should be "re-introduced".

I'll introduce mine a every 2-3 days until I see eggs forming. I'll reintroduce every other clutch or so in the same way if ovulates look about the right size. They let the male know pretty quickly if they're not willing.

I need some insight. I put the male in with the female and tried to breed but the female wanted no part and she attacked him. I have little experience but I know that this wasn't part of breeding, it got violent. I took him out and saved him but I don't know what to do now. Please help.

It's a bit of a judgement call about when to leave the male in and when to take him out. If the female rejects him by biting and he backs off and then leaves her alone then it's probably OK to leave him in. If they get into a fight that doesn't stop or he won't leave her alone then they need to be separated. It's possible that she's already gravid and rejecting him for that reason. Sometimes the forming eggs look like an ovulation getting bigger. You could always give her another 2 weeks alone and then see if it looks as if she has eggs.

If the female isn't receptive she will attack the male. If you see the female attacking him violently get him out of there ASAP! She can seriously injure him. It is normal for the male to bite her gently on the tail, back and neck while gently shaking his head but it is not normal for them to fight and draw blood. If she is attacking him I would wait a few days and try again. You can usually tell within a minute or two if the female will be aggressive or not.
