burying eggs?

how come geckos bury their eggs so deep but when we put them in the incubator we lay them on top of the substrate?

in the wild, the deeper you go, the more stable the temperature and humidity level.
we place them on the surface to keep an eye on them.

whatever they do in the wild must work, cuz they have proliferated.

my guess is that the density of the substrate they bury their eggs in is such that there is plenty of air to support development of the eggs.

what about when the eggs hatch? how do the young ones get up?

No different then sea turtles burying their eggs in the sand.
