Hey all,

Just thought I'd post a few pics of my Butterflies. These guys are really neat! They are skiddish in the cage, but once you get them out are really easy to handle. Flash really washed out their colors, but at least you get an idea of what they look like! It's hard to get their foot long tails in the shot...LOL.

Enjoy! I'll work on getting their color to show up! :p

What kind are they?

Butterfly Agama aka Butterfly Agamid (plural)...

The scientific name is Leiolepis belliana...specifically mine are from the northern subspecies Leiolepis belliana ocellata.

Btw, the top and bottom shots are of females, and the middle shot (one on the rock) is a male. Hard to tell in those pics!!

Very cool :), I have seen these for sale before.

Yeah, the animals aren't super expensive, but the upkeep is! They are definately NOT easy keepers. They really require naturalistic setups with substrate deep enough to burrow in.

However, I think they're freakin cool as heck! So, they're worth it.

Also neat b/c they are pretty similar to beardies in diet...veggies and insects. Mealworms seem to be prefered over crickets (another plus!).

You also have to have flexible sides in their cage otherwise they'll litterally smash their faces in running into them. They are also known as running lizards...and there's a reason for it! Prepare to foam pad the sides of the enclosure if you want to avoid any casualties!
