Calcium Injections? & MBD Question

Hey there,

I recently rescued a young male leopard gecko that somebody dropped off at my friends work. He has pretty nasty mbd in his front legs and it is beginning to develop in his back legs. He is eating okay for me (hand feeding) but looks like he had lost weight before they dumped him (has kind of a loose skin flap happening on his sides) no pencil tail or anything though. He also had at least two different layers of shed stuck on all his feet which even after soaking is so embedded in his toes that it wont come off - the skin which did come off revealed to me that all but like 5 toes are dead and black...

I am making an appointment for him to go to the vet this coming week to have the toes removed and have the mbd looked at, my question is this - I know I have read that calcium injections are common for mbd but I have also seen posts where people are against it. So what do you think I should do? Why would calcium injections be bad? If they are then what should I have done for him? He can still get around and is young but I feel terrible for him :/

Thanks!

If he's eating I'd stick with oral for now at least. Injections can cause bruising at the site and can be somewhat painful/stressful. The vet can prescribe an oral liquid calcium supplement you can give via oral syringe and be sure to dust all insects.
