Hi, I read somewhere that a red stripe is a polygenetic morph. What does this mean? If I have just a male red stripe and cross him with a recessive female (eg. albino), could I produce hets? Or do I need at least a pair to produce more red stripes? Thanks in advance.

Yes or a Stripe of any sort. But Red Stripe x Red Stripe will produce the nicest animals. Just like Bold Stripe x Bold Stripe will make the best Bold Stripes.

Hi, "yes" to which one of my questions? They can produce hets?

If so, a pair of hets for bold and red stripe would produce bold red stripes?

Thanks

Well some people believe Bold Stripes are recessive, but Red Stripes are a proven polygenetic morph meaning there are no Hets.

Thanks. In that case I better get a pair. I didn't know earlier and I ordered only a male with the idea to create hets and cross back to him. That would certainly a waste of time LOL!

What if pairing that male to a normal female. Would he get B grade red stripes? He should be able to produce b and a grades when backpairing the outcomes to the daddy rihgt?

There has been a lot posted about stripes and a lot of different opinions about how the genetics work. I don't know myself, but here are some results from previous years as data points:

Patternless red stripe(PRS) x stripe: 100% stripe with varying degrees of spotting and orange

PRS x redstripe: mostly PRS for some reason

stripe x tremper albino: 50% stripe

(SHT daughter of tremper albino above crossed with the tremper: 33% jungles; I think the albino, who is banded, has some stripe in his history)

This season I will be crossing the SHT above with the PRS to see what percentage of jungles/stripes I get and will also cross with another SHCT with no known stripe genetics)
