Just wondering if geckos can be trained almost like you would train a dog......my gecko has learned how to put her front feet on my fingers and let me lift her up so she is standing on her hind legs. its too cute and it took her a while :D. Any opinions or stories will be kewl to read :D

I dont know if they can be trained, but they are good observers.

My leos already knows when to expect me home from work.
They know when it's dinner time, and they recognize the little container I use to transport the crickets to them.

My female knows to associate the long feeding tweezers with a meal.
If she's hiding or napping, all I have to do is wave the tweezers around and
she gets excited and "cues up" in her favorite spot to receive crickets :main_yes:

She also stairs at me in the morning when I'm getting dressed for work!! :p

My girl has a tricky hide to get into. It took her a few weeks to figure it out, but now she knows exactly how to find the entrance. Based on that, I KNOW that they can learn. Whether you can train them to actually do tricks on command like a dog does . . . I don't know.

A goldfish can learn, so a leo should be able to learn.

i built a lego castle for me geckos, it had two levels.

at first they didnt know how to get in it. so i modified the door untill they recognized it as a hide. then after that they would go in, but only to the bottom level. once they knew that legos = home i slowly changed the door to something that looks cool. then i changed it so that in order to get to the bottom level they had to go upstairs first, so they were forced to use the second level.

now they will climb all over the place and use all the differant parts (and its huge it takes up most of a 20 gallon long). i could totally change the entrance so they could only get their by climbing and they would still go in it.

so yes, the geckos can definately learn. it just takes them a while.

Mine come to the front of the tub whenver they see me. They know its feeding day or just a little snack. I think its more of a routine then learning but ya never know

LOL i think this concludes that geckos can learn :D. I recently got 2 3-4 month olds and they know when i lift up the hide and im sitting on the floor with a box that its feeding time :p. Its really cute. One od them stalks the crickets thru the glass with her little nose up against the side of the tank.

See, that is what is so fun about leopard geckos. They have such cute personalities. I have some that when they see a wax worm in my hands leap off the top of their hides, and fly through the air with their jaws snapping all the way. How can you not laugh when you see this?
