Can I use a heat pad under the tank when using tile?

I might get tile in my 20 long,buy I was wondering if I could use a under tank heatpad.would it get hot enough?

Yes, it works quite well. If you feel it isn't getting hot enough, tape a sheet of aluminum foil under the heater so the UTH is sandwiched between the bottom of the tank and the foil.

I use 12"x12" tiles and the silicone in the tank prevents the tile from touching the glass and uth. Ive been using sand to fill the gap and it seems to transfer the heat to the tile very well.

I tiled my 10 gallon and i have to put newpaper under the tile because it gets TO hot... without the news paper the tile gets about 104 degrees and with some sheets of news paper i have gotten it too about 94 degrees, you just have to play around with it because all UTH are different and inconsistant. Recomend a digital thermometer and set the probe right on the tile surface
