I have eggs, so I am using vermiculite I did the 1 part vermiculite to 8 parts water but that seem to have just filled it with water, so I drained it out and squeezed the vermiculite,, do you think that is enough water or how will I know it's enough water? I don't want to dry out the eggs but I also don't want them to mold. Help!!!! what should I do? If I did go get Hatchrite, is it safe to transfer the eggs? Or is hatchrite even the way I should go? Please....Pretty Please help

I think the ratio you may have wanted was 1 part vermiculite to "point 8" parts water, at least that's what my perlite ratio is. I have never used vermiculite before; I used Albey's method with perlite when I was using the hovobator with eggs buried in substrate. From what I have heard, squeezing out the vermiculite is the right way to go. You could put one of those cheap hygrometers in your egg container and see if the humidity is around 80-90%, probably 90% is better. If you decide you want to switch to another substrate, get a new egg container, prepare it for eggs, put it into the incubator for at least 24 hours to let it get to the proper temperature, and then transfer the eggs. That won't hurt them.

The most important thing is to try not to worry too much and just let the eggs do their thing. You could have the most perfect hatching environment and the eggs will still mold because they're not fertile or else the embryo dies through no fault of your own.

Good luck,

Aliza
