candle lighting question

i've read a few different posts and two different books that talk about candlelighting and the time at which you can do it.

Some say immediately, some say after three weeks, and some said after week one.

I have two eggs laid yesterday and are incubating and came out looking perfect.

At what point is the consensus that I can candle light them to see if they are fertile.

thanks in advance,

Mj

i generally give them a week or so. but i dont candle to see if they are fertile. i candle them just out of curiosity. no matter what an egg looks like i incubate it til i know for a fact the egg is no good (it caves in, explodes, molds over or it's been in there for like 6 months). even eggs that are dry i try to incubate LOL

thanks.. i knew about the colors.. and i'll post pics ASAP. I have about 16 more that should be in 1-2 weeks and more and more over the coming weeks. I have 8 total females in season and breeding. I'm mating three more next week. So I'll post pics of the ones that make it through.. There are some good pics on Albey's too cool website. There's a link at the top of the page.

I will incubate all eggs layed. I candle some or most of them and a lot of the time I can tell if they are fertile right after they are layed. But not always. I can usually see a pink tone to the egg not yellow a lot of the time there will be a pink vain at the top of the egg. A little circle with a dot in the middle.

No!

I candle so I know which eggs to watch. I still incubate all eggs till they hatch or go bad.

Ah!

I just don't bother with it because I'm kind of lazy when it comes to things that aren't necessary. Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying I think it's wrong to candle... If I don't HAVE to do it I usually tend not to... :main_laugh:

I do it cause if I see an egg that I suspect is infertile, it goes in it's own container, so that if it starts to mold it doesn't spread to good eggs. ;)

I guess it can be necessary after all! I didn't think about that...
