Oohhh, I would love to have any links and/or info you'd like to share! I actually did stumble upon the package testing form. (It was hard to find)! It says to attach it to the outside of the box, though...does that mean folded inside plastic like an invoice or taped all flattened out to expose the whole page? Oh, and can I just print out a label myself online for shipping it? I'm confused about addressing the test package since they want the form, which shows the sending address, on the outside of the box + I'd need a label for them to scan/show that I've paid for the shipping which also has the sending address on it. Thanks in advance for any answers/info! :)

Ok, so I have it as an attachment in my email. I can forward it to who ever wants it, but if I'm allowed to copy/paste it here I will. Maybe we can do a sticky of Fedex live ship requirements then somehow? It's such a common question.
Oh-to answer your question. I had printed out the form and taped it to the box and the shipment people actually called me to tell me I didn't need to do that. Because when they went to untape it, it tore the paper and they couldn't see all the info they needed. He said I could have put it in the box, seeing as they know it's a test box anyhow. Also to make sure to tape the deli cups closed with 2 pieces of tape. I don't think anyone ever does that, but he said it's a precaution.
I guess you could also place in a plastic bag though and then tape on the box if you wanted? I'm a little nuts-my test box had a letter inside saying that I'd put a cold pack for hot weather, heat for cold weather, I put paper towel in the deli cup and wrote "leopard gecko" on the lid.

If you plan to ship on a regular basis, then becoming FedEx certified is definitely a must. However, if you are only going to ship an animal now and then, you might consider the shipping options available through www.reptster.com.

After watching a short video on proper packaging, you can order the shipping boxes through Reptster and ship through their account. I might add, they offer a 40% discount off standard FedEx rates.

One thing that has not been brought up in this thread are the legalities of shipping reptiles.

Shipping a reptile without the proper labeling violates the Lacey Act. This is a Federal act and is not to be taken lightly.

To comply, you must specify both the common and taxonomic name and quantity on the exterior of the shipping box. Additionally, it is required to have text on all six sides of the box that states "Live Harmeless Reptile".

Ignoring this, can subject the shipper to serious fines, should the violation be discovered and pursued.

Through Reptster shipping, you can label the box correctly and not have to be "sneaky" with your shipments.

Please note: I am not affiliated with Reptster in any way other then being a member of the site. I have also never used their shipping, as I am FedEx Certified. But it is a good option, for some.

Hope this helps.

Based on recent events, I respectfully withdraw my endorsement for Reptster and their shipping services. The owner's actions have made it very clear to me that he is undeserving of any support from the reptile community.
I have cancelled my account there.
