I've been meaning to post pics of my Russians.

Carl is about 4-5 years old

Eve is about 4 years old

Their unfinished outdoor enclosure... It's further along than in this picture, but it's the only picture on my computer (and I'm in a picture posting mood).

There's a divider in there that can be latched closed (it's laying down in the picture; wasn't latched and the rain knocked it over). I'm going to be planting edible plants withing the enclosure. The wood has been stained since then. The corner where the privacy fence meets the chainlink fence has a gap that I have to fix; Carl's already found it and has tried to escape many times. I'm letting them test it out while I'm outside working on it, so I can find all the issues before they're able to spend the day out there.

I'll be landscaping outside the pen whenever I get a chance. I'm hoping that this weekend I'll be able to plant my pansies and hostas. I've been sitting on them for several weeks. Things keep coming up on the past few Saturdays.

Neither of those posted ages is correct. Those are both WCs, by the way. I hope you were not taken in by a claim stating otherwise and knew they were WCs up front. I still have a 1.1 LTC (WC) pair, too. I've already sold all of my CB babies. Acclimated individuals are tanks as long as they don't have any remaining endoparasites or oral herpetic infections. You'll get a lot of enjoyment out of your pair. :)

Thanks Matt. It's still a work in progress. Of course it's too chilled right now to work on it... Well, I guess I could, but I'd rather not. Ha

Baoh, I never said they were CB. Maybe someone shouldn't assume. Maybe we shouldn't be so rude. The male, I assumed was LTC; the breeder I purchased the female from purchased her and a few others from another breeder. He said they were farm bred.

Also, I'm not finished with the enclosure. I plan on putting a dark something to block off the gaps on the interior so that they cannot see to the other side. They cannot climb the wooden fence, as the gaps are too far apart for them to get grip on the next one. As for burrowing that's been taken care of. First thing I did. Let's not put into assumptions that I didn't do my research before I got the torts much less got started on the enclosure. There is hardware cloth buried throughout the entire enclosure so that they cannot dig out. I'm not really sure what you're problem was when you wrote the replies, but let's try not to be so rude. It's just not flattering. Like I said originally, the pen above is not completed.

I did not assume anything. I wanted to let you know in case you did not already know, as the ages you mentioned are inaccurate and the practice of mislabeling by those who sell Russians (and Hermann's and Greeks) is still common.

They do not ranch or farm Russians, either. Redfoots and some others, yes, but not Russians. It is not done and not cost effective.

As for the enclosure, it was a suggestive reminder and nothing more.

Get upset if you like, but if you do, you probably want to have a reason to take offense.

Could possibly have been the tone as well as accusation. I'm only telling you what the breeder said he was told. Can you say for a 100% fact that no Russians that are 4-5 years old has been born in captivity? It's be cool if you know every single person who has ever bred or raised a Russian.

Why would I want to have a reason to take offense?

One cannot hear tone in writing online, so it's a good idea to word things carefully when you write. You flat out said that my ages are wrong and whatever else. You really have no clue besides those pictures unless you know who the breeders were and how they got their animals. I never posted any of that, much less weights and size. Preciate it though.

Yes, I am quite irritated and I'm sure that comes across, but if I told you that things are wrong that I didn't have background info to support and you told me I was wrong on things I never even posted, you'd probably be irritated as well. Same with assumptions I didn't do my research.

There are just nicer and less rude ways to put what you said that probably wouldn't have frustrated me as much.

I did not say that there are no CB Russians that are 4-5 years old. I am saying the pictured tortoises are not that age.

I would not be the person to understand your reasons.

"Could possibly have been the tone as well as accusation."

"One cannot hear tone in writing online, so it's a good idea to word things carefully when you write."

Which is it? The second quote defies the first.

I never assumed you did not do your research. You are choosing to take offense to accusations I have never made.

I simply pointed out that the pictured tortoises are not of the ages listed, so the numbers are therefore inaccurate/incorrect. If you have kept hundreds of both CB and WC Testudines, as well as observed them in the wild and are intimately familiar with market and importation games, as I have and am, then I simply beg to differ with what you have said regarding their ages.
