I was wondering if it was ok to use rubber-backed carpet,(same stuff used in houses) as the substrate for leopard geckos.

thanks.

i've never heard of anyone using carpet.. but IMO it would be difficult to clean. and i would think it could house bacteria much easier. and not sure how well heat would transfer?

just an idea..

i use a bath towel on the bottom of my tanks...i just cut it to size so it fits the bottom. it works really well, its soft and their nails dont get stuck in it (I tried t-shirt material but they get stuck on it). its really easy to clean also- when they poo just wait for it to dry a bit then pick it up with a tissue. when one side gets to dirty just flip it over, when both sides get dirty- throw it in the washer and hang dry. i have two 10gallons so one bath towel gives me 4, so when one set is in the wash, i have the other in the tank...its thick enough to make it so they are not (basically) walking straight on the glass (like the t-shirt) but thin enough so that the heat goes through sufficiently. let me know what ya think
