Cave gecko identification

Can I get some feedback? I purchased this cave gecko last month, and was told he was a G. haianensis. I've been trying to verify this, but not much information is available. The G. haianensis and the G. lichtenfelderi seem very similar to me. What do you all think? (He does have the red eyes, this photo was taken in the dark and his pupils are huge!)

What a completely stunning lizard!

I'm not an expert but it looks a bit closer to lichtenfelderi to me - then again I'm a programmer not a herpetologist so take that with a decent sized grain of salt.

You may want to check out this thread -

Either way he's gorgeous

Edit: The more I read the more I don't think I can tell based on the pic, according to one of the comments (quoting from the eyelash gecko book)

Position of the nuchal loop in G. hainanensis touch the back of the eye and G. lichtenfelderi it does not. Also the number of eye-lid fringes, G.hainanensis has 55-68 and G. lichtenfelderi has 43-56.

Beyond that seems nearly impossible to tell directly. There are also apparently a number of crosses in the trade so it may be some mix thereof. Granted there seems to be a ton of conflicting information out there so hard to say.

Thank for the links Apocalypse! I'm still not sure. Now, I did break my own rule when I got him, he was listed as WC. So I don't disturb him much. Most of these photos are taken at night. My reptile room has a blue bulb so I don't stab myself with the feeding tweesers, but here are a couple more shots.

and I tried to sharpen this of his head.

This is the adult pair of G. Hainanensis that I had. As you can see, the ring on the head almost touches the eye and you can clearly see the yellow rings on the body and the grayish ones on the tail.
Here is a link you can check out with many different types.

I didn't actually see one that lookes like yours though, but it explains many characteristics.
Yours could also be a mixture of the G. Hainanensis and the G. lichtenfelderi, but not sure on that. I am no expert! :)

As a WC adult, I doubt he is a mix. But since he is probably several years old, his markings are poorly defined. I think I'll just assume he is G. hainanesis, and get him a girlfriend. The proof should be in the offspring....
