ceramic Heat Emitters

I searched through the forums, and i didn't seem to find an answer for what i am looking for, so hopefully one of you can help. My UTH wasn't getting warm enough (probably because i bought a cheap one), so i went out and got a red light bulb to give my Leo some extra heat. Now that it is getting colder out, even those together have trouble maintaining a temp much above 80, so i went out and got a ceramic heat emitter on Ebay. It's a ZooMed 100watt CHE, but it says something about a special clam lamp i need to use. What i am really asking is do i need to get the ZooMed lamo or will any old clamp lamp work?? I don't really want to burn down my apartment! haha

p.s. I have both plugged into a ReptiTemp 500R thermostat.

Are you taking the floor temperature and not the air temperature? Because an UTH and a red heat bulb should be plenty. Take the floor temp to ensure you are not frying your gecko. However if the temp is still not hot enough...Yes I would recommend a zoo med heat clamp lamp because they are designed to deal with the high temperatures of heat emitter bulbs. Or if I were you since belly heat is the best I would sell the crappy UTH, heat bulb, and clamp lamp you have to get some money to invest into a GOOD UTH. My favorite ones are the Ultratherm heat pads from The Bean Farm. (beanfarm.com) They are a little pricey but they last and are great!

i use both on my showroom models....thats all you need...is your guage on the back on your glass? A heat mat should go 88-92

my thermomoter is sitting right on the floor, directly on top of the UTH with the probe from the thermostat right next to it. I was stupid and bought a "Leopard gecko starter kit" which came with the UTH, which is probably why it is so crappy

You need a good quality UTH and thermostat.

I swear by the Ultratherm mats from The Bean Farm. Even my roach colony
gets one :)

Unless your room gets really cold, you should not need any other heat source.
