How much have you read up on cresties? What are your main concerns that you haven't resolved yet (example: enclosure, feeding, temp, humidity, decor, ect)? Are you looking for a baby, sub-adult, or adult?

You already know the biggest issue with people keeping cresties....
CGD=good ...... Baby Food=bad its surprising the amount of people that can't grasp this concept so you have half the battle won lol.... Ask away with any concerns

LOLOL yes like Darren says: if you look at older books on cresteds or older care sheets, Even in 1999 Adam Blacks crested gecko guide states baby food being a good food for cresties. This is ultimately the worst idea. Allen Repashy has created a diet this balances everything. you can even add other flavours or PIG(pigment enhancing) food to the diet. As Solid food should still be provided 1-2times weekly (depending on the juvi, sub adult, or adult)75 works nicely, a smaller 25W (night glo or red light) wouldn't hurt.

But up untill the CGD, applesauce or babyfood was thought to be best. I'm sure it tastes good, but the sugars and flavours are highly addictive.

75? are you talking about the wattage of a lightbulb here? If so 75 watts is WAY too much for a crestie. They dont even need a bulb as long as the proper temps are kept and they have light coming in the room.

Not to be rude, but your still asking questions yourself...I dont think it's time to start helping people yet. These are animals lives we're talking about, using a 75 watt bulb over an enclosure that is in a room that is already 75 degrees is going to kill it!

Maybe you were talking about the room temp here? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but you need to clarify that, because anyone can mistake what you typed in your post. And are you stating to use the 25 watt red bulb during te day/ night what? 25 watts over an enclosure thats already in a room thats 75 degrees is going to be OVERKILL. You dont even know what size enclosure he's putting it in, and that can make a huge difference in the wattage needed for a bulb, if one was needed at all.

Keep in mind that crested geckos are arboreal (they like to climb). I'm not sure what the measurements of a 5 gallon tank is in inches (length x width x height), but usually, the taller, the better. However, that can depend on the size of the gecko, in grams, as well.

Cresties are very easy geckos to keep, you just have to understand their requirements. Usually, if you're comfortable in your house (temperature-wise) then your crested gecko will be, too. They normally don't require any heat source. With you being in Canada, what's the temperature in your house like in the winter?

As for mealworms... I, personally, would NOT give them to my crested geckos. The worms exo-skeleton are really hard, and can cause digestive problems for your crestie. I feed my crested geckos CGD (or MRP). CGD = Crested Gecko Diet, and MRP = Meal Replacement. It's a total diet that's formulated for crested geckos. I feed mine crickets as a treat, about once (sometimes twice) a week.

I would say, if you know you're going to get the gecko from The Urban Gecko shot them a message (on their site) or an email and ask them about any questions/concerns you may have. Do your homework, which you are now, that's good.

Also, there's several sites that are really good to visit when it comes to Crested Geckos. Take a look around this subforum, and I'm sure you'll find the sites. If not... I'll try to list some later.

I hope that helps.

Take ur time.. 5g is way too small for a juvie. I consider a 12x12x18 (11g) the MINIMUM for a adult cresties. 18x18x18 or 18x18x24 would be the best. As stated don't feed mealworms to ur crested, it may damaged their jaw.

Wulf didn't want to know the temp outside ur home during winter, he wants to know what's the temp inside ur home. Low-mid 60f is the minimum for a crested.`

Many keep their geckos in critter keepers (less than 4 gallons) until they reach a size of 10 or 15 grams. After that, you can upsize to a larger cage.

I've never heard a case of a mealworm damaging the jaw of a crested. If that was the case, every time a gecko missed a cricket they'd be breaking their jaw, let alone when males breed. If this ever did happen, it was probably more related to the effects of a severe case of MBD.

Mealworms can be fed, but they should only be given sparingly. They are harder to digest because of the chitin of their exoskeleton, and if fed too often, chitin build-up could possibly lead to impaction. Still, there are few cases of this happening and it is not well documented - many people just decide not to give mealworms to avoid the risk. Cresties shouldn't be eating bugs as a staple, anyway.
