Certain type of water?

Is it better to give leos a certain type of water (purified or distilled, etc.) or would it be fine just giving them tap water?

I'm sure some purists might tell you filtered and depending on the area you live in it might not be a bad idea. I've given mine tap water and I've had no problems.

I guess the origin of the tap water would be important. I mainly wasn't sure if the general mineral content of tap water would be a threat. Would hate to obliviously kill my poor leo

A lot of people I know around here, use tap water. The only downside is a white hardwater ring. But a little vinigar once a month takes care of that!

I use filtered water on the theory that I won't ask my animals to drink anything I wouldn't drink.
Personally, if your local water is heavily chlorinated I'd say use filtered water (Brita pitchers are cheap). A lot of people on here use tap water, including a lot of breeders who know way more about geckos than I do.

Our tap water here is pretty good, but I buy spring water anyway because it tastes better. I give it to the geckos too.

I think the issue is the chlorine and I guess the chloramines (if that is how you spell it.)

Cholrine will disapate if you leave the water setting out for a while after you have drawn it from the tap.

As for the other stuff in the water, well that is your choice. You could use a filter or bottled water.

You could use distilled water but, it is flat.

I use filtered water with Reptisafe. I know that there is no Chlorine in the water because it sets out for a few days and I assume that there are some minerals that the Reptisfe adds (at lease the label says it does). :main_rolleyes:

I use tap water with reptisafe water drops. It removes the chlorine and such.
