Changed substrate unhappy gecko

I've had a leopard gecko for 6 months, I followed the pet store's direction and used calci-sand as his substrate. The leopard gecko has been doing really well, very healthy, eats well and looks great. I recently decided to change from sand to reptile carpet because of all of the warnings about sand. The gecko is not happy about the carpet. He has been in his moist hide ever since the change and does not come out at all. I have had to feed him in his hide. He has not even pooped for 3 days. What is wrong? Do you think I should go back to the calci-sand?

Some geckos are pretty sensitive about changes to their environment. They may need anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to get used to it. It may take a little more time.

I might add to this that the other
possibility is 6 months on sand
could be the problem.
It may have been eating the sand
all along.
Try a warm bath for the no-poo.
Take care. HJ

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. He was fine on the sand, pooping well and very happy. The instant I changed to reptile carpet he went into his moist hide and doesn't want to come out.

He probably doesn't like the change, hopefully he will adjust.

Update

It took about a week and the leo was back to normal. I guess he doesn't like change.
