Changing offspring from a sperm retaining female?

I have a question that I have never seen asked but everyone probably knows but me, lol.:main_huh: OK. Example: You breed a male and a female albino at the beginning of the breeding season. This female can retain sperm the rest of the year. This I understand. My question is: Can you take this albino female and breed her to a SHTCT male part way through the breeding season, (say now) and change the offspring that hatches? Or will they still be the albino X albino? I hope someone can clear this up for me. Thanks, Mike

i am very interested in this as well. the only animal that i know how this works is the sperm whale. The new male will actually push all of the previous males sperm out of the female, to ensure it is the father.

So you ask if it will be one or the other male, but to add another possible answer to your question, after breeding to 2 or more males, can you get hatchlings from both males? Im tagging along for this one!

I'm glad to see I started something. I hope someone can give us an educated answer. I have been wandering about this ever since I got my possible rainwater albino het male. My albino female has allready been with a different male. I would like to breed these two.

maybe you should just go ahead and breed them and let us know what happens if no one is sure.

I will be doing the same thing Mike. I have a female that is het. R.A.P.T.O.R. and bred her to a tremper albino. Now I have a R.A.P.T.O.R. male and Im going to go ahead and breed her to him.
I also have a couple of SHCTCHBs that have already bred with a male SHCTCHB and I will also change that out and use the RAPTOR with them from her own. I guess we will see what happens.

I in NO WAY know anthing about this lol, but I believe there was a post about this and the answer was something like "I wouldn't recommend it because you may never know who the father is"

I agree with the above post... unless a completely different morph is the 2nd stud... like say breed an albino to an albino then later breed a blizzard to the albino. If the blizzard is not het albino then youll be able to see who the father is based on the phenotype.

Give me about 3 months and I will have a partial answer. I have several female Hypo Tangerines that were breed to my Hypo Tangerine male. They have all laid several clutches and over the past two weeks I have breed them with a male Mack Co-dom. It is a small study group but it should shine some light on the subject.

Im not really sure eather. I have been doing what you call breeding around. I am doing the same thing because i only have 5 adults i have as followed a Normal , Albino bell so i have been told?, SHTCT about 35% Both Male and female and another Normals. I start out breeding My (SHTCT 35% about) to my (SHTCT 35% about) the start of the season. And an Idea came to me I wanted to breed around with my geckos you know like see what crazy babys i could get out of it. 1st time breeder. My problem is i get good eggs but cant hatch them. And until know i never knew that females could do that. So i will also let you guys know when i hatch something out. To see if females offspring really can change over the season. Or if they will be from the first male i put with my female. We should have some nice answers for all of us maby they will all be the same or maby not. Lets see how this card game will play. Thank Guys for your time and letting me put my in put into it . Its going to be a crazy season...lol :)

Last year I had a SHTCT het Bell which I intended to breed to my Mack Snow Pastel het Bell when she got to size. However, I decided to breed her to my Tang Bell instead. Well my Bell females I was going to use to make Snow Bells with never became receptive so I figured I'd go ahead and mate the SHTCT het Bell to the Mack after her third clutch (she'd already laid two and was producing another when I decide this). I put him in with her a day after she laid and I observed copulation. This male was proven by this time... Long story short, she laid four more clutches after that and not a single Mack Snow.

I have been wondering about Tiger the last to hatch from these pairings. He seems to have some Mack Pastel qualities... Light head color, white body spots, and bright yellow color. None of the other hatchlings from this pairing looked anything like him.

In conclusion, I really can't say for sure you could "change" the offspring from a sperm retaining female...
