I want to get another thermostat for the rack system, I'm not comfortable with the one I have now. How good is a Helix, and what are the cheapest sites you've found for them? Any other suggestions for thermostats? Thanks, opinions welcome
I don't know about a cheap one Mary, but I can tell you that I use the Helix DBS 1000 and it's been extremely accurate. Absolutely worth the money I spent for it. After about 3-4 days of adjusting itself when I first bought it, it eventually averages out to what you set it for. I like to keep my house pretty chilly at night and I turn off the a/c during the day and that's about a 30 degree difference since I live in FL...
I absolutely love the Spyder Robotics Herpstat...$109 and worth every penny. I will reporting on it later today. It took 1 hour for it to stabilize and now it holds my temps within one tenth of a degree!
Herpstat here, very stable, and is pretty much equal to the Helix in quality and reliability from what I've heard but a little less expensive. The Johnson's I think isn't proportional so you may not get as consistant of temps. Plus I don't think the build quality is as nice last I looked at one. (don't remember if Johnson's was digital or not) I'd say go Herpstat or try to get a used helix, but the quality is there with the Herpstat and $109 isn't bad when you consider it a long term investment.
