i bought a shelf from walmart for 35 dollars and plan on putting flexwatt on it and buying a thermostat for geckos it should hold 3 15/16 qt tubs on each shelf and thats 15 tubs. all together i should spend about 120 dollars with no tubs or less

It depends on how many you want to hold. We have done the math and it's cheaper to buy a vision rack that holds 22 than it is to buy multiple Animal Plastics racks that will hold the same. The vision racks are nice. They are fairly easy to put together with two people. We are very happy with ours.

Ah...

at roughly $850 for a 22ct V35 rack with tubs that breaks down to roughly $40 a tub

at roughly $600 for the 20ct 15qt rack.... roughly $31 a tub

2 AP ecomomy racks with tubs is around $550 for 24ct.. roughly $23 a tub

Hey,

I might have a solution for you. This works very well for our set-up here.

I buy my racks from Reptile Basics, as I am a sucker for great customer service. Rich is a great guy, ships quickly, and his racks are top quality, in my opinion.

I purchase the Iris-MCB-S rack with 7 12.2qt tubs, which roughly comes out to about $32/tub, and this includes heat tape, tubs, shipping AND assembly. All of those combined really make it worth the $ to me.

Also... as a side thought... I see you are from California,. These racks have little pins, (as you can see in the photo on the site), that secure the tubs in place... so... as a Californian, your tubs wont be flying everywhere if you happen to have a 6.5 earthquake! lol.

It was greatly helpful here in San Jose when we had that big shaker (5.4) in October... haha.

Just my two cents. :)

ahhh..But that's for a 15 qt paul...our V35 tubs are about 32 qts...and 32 qts can hold multiple geckos. ;) If you're going to compare them, you must compare the AP racks that hold the 32 qt tubs... Vision sells smaller racks as well.

sterilite 15qt 17"L x 11 1/8"W 190CI

sterelite 32qt 16-1/4Wx23-1/2L 380CI

V35 20" x 15" 300CI

Lets say a gecko needs 90-100CI per animal...

V35 Rack holds 66 animals

2 (6-32qt) 12ct 15qt racks hold.... 48

AP ecomomy rack $11.50 a gecko

vision rack $13.00 a gecko

wanna play more math games??

my point was you suggest a 22 tub rack was the most economical, which indeed it isn't by all accounts I can think of. I will gladly agree if you find a way it is such as power consumption or other variables.

I will agree that those tubs are easier to clean and nicer than the sterilite 15's

We weren't talking about the economy racks, just the normal AP racks are what we compared our stuff with. For us, it came out cheaper with shipping. For others, the shipping may be less.

it's cool.... but visions are open sided like the economy rack.

Don't hate because I can do math, I will help you anytime you ask for help, but I will also post my thoughts if I disagree.

Sorry, I truely shouldn't have called you out like that and apologize for doing so. I wasn't trying to be mean if it came off like that.

now paul whats the math on the racks you build compared to them ;) no carpentry is needed to build your own really...get home depot/lowes to cut for you and as long as you can drill a hole and screw in a screw you should be able to handle it....then of course comes the heating thats the fun part :D

lets see the "I can't wire way" with 1 continuous piece of flexwatt is the most expensive..

Flexwatt maybe $42 wired and shipped
12 15's at $4 each(I pay way less) $48
sheet of melamine cut for you $29
piece for the back $3

$122

$10.17 a tub
$5.08 a gecko if housed in pairs.and takes an hour to build and wire.

I buy heat tape 100 feet at a time $207 shipped, tubs at $2.33 each(have 78 extras), melamine is always just under $29 a sheet and backs are under $4

12 feet flexwatt $25
12 tubs $28
melamine $29
back $3

$86
$7.17 a tub
$3.59 a gecko

I can jump on them, light doesn't bother geckos and no drafts..

$774 invested to house.... 216adults at those figures and I own a few 32qt racks too .

forget about hatchling racks...... :main_laugh:

LMAO.......Genetics and a math wizard, next rack I get ready to build Im calling you!!! Im working on some now that I kinda building. Home Depot has cabinets that are 24 inches wide 16.5 inches deep and 6 foot tall. I trim them in oak and plexi glass doors. Same as the ones posted on my website. Comes to roughly around 150.00 each to build, once you add in hinges and latches.
I just cant keep my geckos in tubs.....I like the open front plexi glass door. I sit for hours just watching the geckos.

Either way, I'm the lazy one still ordering from AP, another one of those racks that has shelves you can use 15/32qt tubs in. I am satisfied. As, far as I know AP's shipping is flat rate.. Go with the AP's..lol

With Flex watt building a rack is realy easy. You don´t even have to cut slots to install heatcables hehe. Next time I will import Flexwatt even if it is more expensive it´s still easier and well cooler hehe.
