I don't use carrots or potatoes for moisture, so I mist the bedding. So far it has worked for me.

It doesn't make the substrate moldy? :main_huh:

Nope. I do not place a lid on my containers (gallon milk jugs with the top half cut off). The one time I placed a lid on top I had mold within days. I mist the substrate every 2-3 days and I hardly ever see dead meal worms. I usually get 10-20% of the meal worms to morph into beatles, that is how I keep my colony going.

You're lucky, I havent got a single baby mealworm yet. The colony of beatles is still alive. I'm about to just sell them or something. :p

some of mine are pretty decent sized by now, not big enough to feed but maybe like 1/4" long average with some of them over 1/2"

all my beetles died though (all 8 of them) so i'll have to get another few pupae in there when my mealworm reserves get depleted.

mine were breeding and doing great until my beetles discoverd how to escape. I threw out all my bettles and decided even with feeding 20 mouths, I am only going to buy them by the 5000!

i've got every size from little 1/4" mealies all the way up to big guys well over an inch right now, i think i'm going to sift them out into a bigger container soon and leave them for a while until i start running low again.
