5 years ago i went into a pet store to get rat food for my rats..
while waiting i saw a guinea pig,
an abysimmian calico colored one...
she was very underweight and unhealthy.
but the way she looked at me was enough to make me spend the $45 on her.
i walked out with a new friend.
after we got her home i spent weeks fattening her up and helping her learn to trust me .
a month later she had 2 babies
she had been pregnant when i had bought her.
i didnt know of course.
we never knew how old she was, the vet estimated about 3 years when we got her.
she was put down sunday afternoon..
she had a tumor, asthma, catarcts, and had an infection.
she had been on medicine for years but the vet said that it had stopped being affective. there was nothing they could do for my baby..
so i held her while she breathed her last breath and cried for her.
that $45 guinea pig had been my best friend for 5 years.
i spoiled her as much as i could and now..well i just wish i couldve done something more.
i wish i couldve saved her...
her full name was chewbacca only called that when she would shake herself dry after a bath and get me wet...
but now all i have are pictures and memories.
i miss her more than anyone can imagine...

It sounds like she had an amazing life with you! Maybe later down the road you'll be able to give another Guinea Pig in need of rescue a wonderful home. Don't beat yourself up about what you could have done. 5 years is a long time for a GP to make it, 8 is very rare. She was a lucky pig to be able to spend her golden years being spoiled.
