So I was thinking of using this chicken starter stuff for my mealworms/superworms but I am concerned that they have put antibiotics and extra stuff in it. Isnt this a problem because your geckos are inadvertently consuming this stuff?

This is the stuff I am talking about http://www.countrymax.com/MANNA-PRO-POULTRY-START-GROW-5-LB

Only reason I chose it is because the store near me sells it. I havent put much effort into finding other places that might sell different feed so any suggestions would also be appreciated. Dont tell me to buy progeckos gutload or some other gutload, I already know about these products I am just trying to find a cheaper alternative. Thanks!

We use medicated chick start for our crickets and they do fine. I used to use it on my mealies but don't anymore. I don't think there is any problem associated with using it, as we used it for years.

Me being pro organic feel that constantly feeding our animals antibiotics is not good for them. New strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria have been created because of our societies "over use" of antibiotics in both people and livestock.

I guess feeding the feeders this stuff could be a good way to help the healing process of a sick animal but I would not want to subject an animal to continual intake of antibiotics over any kind of period of time.

Well...here is my opinion on medicated
chick starter.
After using it until noticing on the label
not to feed it to Laying Hens...I inquired
about the difference between it and
Layer Hen Crumbles.
Farm store grain manager pointed out 2
chemicals added to the Chick started.
Reason for the additives is to be a preventive
for Coccidiosis spreading. ( diarrhea )
Since chicks are usually grouped together....
Since he and I consider my egg laying geckos more
like laying hens...I went with his suggestion
to use Layer Hen Crumbles for food for all my prey.
No idea of a problem with chick starter.....
Just since my opinion was supported by
someone in the grain business....
it's the choice for me.
Has a great analysis chart.
Take care. Hj
