I was thinking about getting a pair of these. They are also known as the Namibian Sand Gecko, they come from the deserts of South Africa. Their care from what I can find, seems very similar to that of the African Fat tail. The guy Im thinking of getting them from says they are very easy to care for and breed and that the male and female can be housed together year round. Im just tring to get a few other opinions on these guys, and wondering if anyone else has had them, or has any experience with them?

Main things Im interested in finding out are:

Temperment...Are they able to be handled like fat tails or leos?
Bathroom Habits....go anywhere and everywhere, or only in one corner?
Life span?
Can they be housed together year round?
Husbandry info.

PS I was able to find a caresheet online, but if anyone has experience with the Chodrodactylus angulifer, Id REALLY LOVE to hear from you!:main_yes:

I've worked with them in the past. The ones I had were kept separate except for breeding. I kept them similar to the way I kept my Rough Knobtails. Mine did NOT like to be handled, and their bite was rather painful.

I am from South Africa where you find these guys Allbeit in the Northern Parts.

They do not like to be handled and cannot be handled like a leopard gecko or a Fat Tail. In addition they are nothing like fat tails in terms of keeping or handling. They can be quite aggressive and often draw blood from bites.

They like it HOT HOT too. I keep my colonies with a hot side of about 35 degrees in about10-15cm of sand with PVC piping submerged under the sand as borrows.

The not liking to be handled part, and biting I think has turned me off. Darn I think their faces are SO cute too :(

Thank you so much for this info. And after additional research lst night, I discovered that my statement was wrong about the fat tail thing. I read into the care a lot last night, and it was exactly what you said. But not being able to be handled at all, and the biting has turned me off. Thank you so much for the first hand information:main_thumbsup: and helping me make my decision :)

I've got a trio and they are really cool geckos. The male is very bold and will come out and eat any time food is offered. He'll even eat from tongs. The 2 females are much more shy, and will usually head for cover as soon as they see me or the lights come on.

I don't handle them any more than I have to. I haven't been bit, and I don't want to be. They've got really blocky heads and strong jaws.
