Not sure if I should have put this here or in health, so if Otis in the wrong sub forum, I'm sorry. [emoji4]

Okay, as I told you before I bought a used 16 slot hatchling rack for my coming babies. The first clutch is due at the end of March/beginning of April, so I need to get my butt in gear and clean it. It is pretty dusty from sitting for a few years so it will need a deep clean. It lasted housed Ball Python hatchlings and he told me he had no illness issues. I'd rather be safe than sorry though, and disinfect it really good.

So what is the best way to clean and disinfect this thing? What should I use to clean it? I heard Ammonia is the only thing that will kill Crypto but is that a concern after sitting for 5 years? That stuff smells horrible so if I don't have to use it that'd be great, but I will. Also, how do I clean it with out ruining the Flex Watt? It is back heated. I have never used the stuff so I don't know how to remove it and reinstall it. [emoji20]

Here's what I would recommend: take out the bins. Spray with water and dry. Spray with hydrogen peroxide, wait at least 30 seconds and dry. Spray with vinegar, wait at least 30 second, and dry. Let the bins sit out in the fresh air (even in the cold). If you really think you need to do something about possible crypto, I'd recommend tossing the bins and getting new ones. Take a moist paper towel and wipe out the rack itself, preferably with the heat off. That would do it for me.

I'm not really concerned about Crypto after 5 years, unless I hear of someone saying they know of it being passed after that long. I haven't found any literature about it living that long.

That sounds like a good plan. I have it in the garage right now because it is so dusty. So I will take it out on the driveway the first sunny day to clean. We are going through a rainy period. The cold weather finally broke this week and we are in the 50-60s this week. Yay!

I need to solder some holes in a few of the bins, also, before I bring it inside to the spare room.

Thanks for the advice! I think I need some hydrogen peroxide so I will pick some up tonight when I go get some bamboo dowel rods for my baby Cresties. [emoji4]

Here are several good disinfectants. I've used the chlorohexidine before and it's great. There are a couple of ammonia based ones as well. Nolvason is the chlorohexidine. Kenic and roccal-d are the ammonia based. Read the what disinfectants to use part.
