I have reptile carpet in my gecko's habitat and I was wondering what would be the best way to clean it. The box says to rinse it with cold water, but would that really get it clean? Can you put it in the washing machine?

hey... I used to use Reptile Carpet... before I had 9 geckos.. haha.

anyway.. I always washed mine in the washing machine, just without the detergent. I just washed them in warm water.

hope that helps!

Back when I was using reptile carpet I would wash it in the sink in warm water with dishwashing liquid. Then I would put it in the washing machine on the spin cycle to get the moisture out and then hang it over the tub to dry it. I had 2 pieces so I could swap them around.

I used to have reptile carpet for my snake. When I would clean it I would just use my dad's pressure washer. Don't know how much sense that made though, looking back. HaHa.

I use that Zilla terainium liner carpet stuff. I hand wash it in the sink with warm water and a spoon full of liquid no dyes/perfume detergent. I then rinse it out 4-6 times. No probs yet and been doing that for 2 months.

The cage carpet I use says on the box to soak it for 1/2 hour. I soak it in warm water with some nolvasan, then rinse it. It can be dried in the dryer, but if there's nothing else in there it will stick to the sides of the dryer and take forever to dry. Throw a few towels or shirts in there when you're drying it and it will work better.

I only still use it in our hatchlings tank but I put ours in the washer in hot water and no detergent. I put it on auto soak so it can soak in the hot water for awhile. I was so glad when we went to tile in our other tank!!!! I was washing reptile carpet every day twice a day- YUCK!

I ended up just rinsing it in warm-hot water by hand with no soap. It worked pretty well, all the debris came off and there was no residual smell. I was most concerned about bacteria or etc, not coming out when just rinsing with water. Might try throwing it in the washer next time, I have this great detergent called BioKleen, i highly recommend it.
