First off, I have my geckos in my room, on a bookshelf in their individual tanks/tubs. The one on the bottom shelf is a 20/29 gal long tank, and I hadn't put the lid on it because majority of the tank is covered by the shelf above it and only about 2-3 inches sticks put past the shelf. I figure it's darn near impossible for her to get out, and why would she (well I thought wrong!). I had walked out my room this morning and left the door open a little because the heat seems to stay in that room really bad. I have two cats and they of course love bugs and little lizards and stuff.

Well to make a long story short (if I can do that ;) ), I walked back into my room and saw my cat in there looking at the corner of the tank. I just assumed she was looking at her through the tank in her hide. Well I got the cat out of there b/c I was afraid she was scaring my gecko and I looked for her in the tank and didn't see her. Then I caught sight of her, she was on the side of the tank on the outisde of it (with this bookshelf there is only about 2 inches of space on one side of the tank). I freaked! I just couldn't figure out how she got out! I got her back in her tank and I think she was horrified. I didn't see any marks on her, so I dont think the cat got a hold of her, but wow, my cats are no longer allowed in my room (actually they never were, I just happened to leave the door open today), and the lids are staying on the tanks from now on!!

Cats & geckos.............don't mix. From what i read they are the number one cause of untimely gecko deaths.

Yea, I've heard of others having problems with their cats and geckos. I just never worried because the geckos are in my room and the cats aren't allowed in there, and normally don't go in there if I happen to leave the door open, but I was wrong this time! Poor gecko, I feel horrible! Lucky she didn't get hurt at all, just stressed I'm sure.

And I agree, Lucky would be a good name :main_yes: !! I'm just glad she's ok!

Some people may disagree but I think a top is a requirement for leopard geckos. Also, who says Leos are not arboreal? Mine spend a lot of time on my fake plant, and thank goodness that I keep a top on all my tanks because I would bet they would climb out if the top wasn't there.

My cat learned how to open the snap lids on the tanks. I was woken up abruptly one morning to the loud sound the tank makes when the lid is snapped open only to see the cat on top of the tank with her paw dangling in it. That was the last time she was in my room. Normally I don't worry too much about my cat around the geckos when I'm around because she's declawed but ever since she learned how to open that tank she's not been allowed near them. I think she wants the crickets more than the geckos though. One perk of having a cat and reptiles is that the cat always gets the loose feeders.
