Colder temps affect leo colors?

My boyfriend says that some Japanese care guides say that colors will dull if leopard geckos are kept too cool. Is there any consensus on this in the English speaking side of the hobby? :main_robin:

This happens with Tremper albinos and some Tangerine lines. The Tremper albinos are known to darken during their first 12-18 months if kept too cool or even incubated at lower temps. Once they darken they stay dark. The Tangerine lines that darken, not many of them do, will brighten back up after their temps are raised.

Hmm, interesting! I believe my patternless albino to be of the 'Rainwater' type, so would this mean that it is safe?

Ron Tremper in his book and websit says that cool incubation temps and cooler temps while they grow up will darken them. He also says to incubate eggs at the temp for the sex you want and once the sex is locked in to raise the temp, so they hatch bright. But I don't know how true this is, I have some geckos that where incubated for female that are very bright.

Maybe that could just be a factor? Maybe genetics could affect it too?

I seem to recall that when my leo was being kept at low temps when I first moved her from the ten gallon to the twenty long (didn't have a strong enough bulb) she was kind of dull, and then I got a new one and bumped the temps up, she appeared brighter. But that could just be my imagination, I suppose.
