Last night and this morning i have been hearing a type of "barking" coming from my mitritas enclosure. Anyone ever experienced this? If so can you tell me more
Barking? I've heard them make noises that I'd describe as like squeaky clicks- but generally when they were stressed about something (like me poking them, or them fighting with one another)- and not often.
no this was like a small little bark type of noise. not loud at all. i didnt know if they called for mates or something like that. when my are upset or i poke them, they squeek but this was different. it was after i misted the eclosure and turned out the lights. last night and this morning but nothing durring the day
They don't vocalize for mates as far as I know... not like an attraction kind of noise, they'll hiss and click/squeak a little if the males are beating one another up- but then I never really took the time to intentionally cycle them to breed. My ownership was always transient way the hell back when I was actually bothering to buy and sell reptiles. So I could very well be wrong. Although... generally calling and displays tend to be the behavior of the males when it comes breeding time, rarely females.
Have you seen her making the noise? I mean watched her while she did it to verify it was coming out of her mouth? Or just kind of heard it coming from the tub (or the direction of the tub) while you were doing something else in the room?
