Colour Vision?

Hi all

Here’s a question...

Can leopard geckos see in colour, or only certain colours, or in black and white? Does anyone know if there has been any research into the eyesight of leos?

Cheers,

Dakota

As night predators, I'd think light sensitivity would take precedence over color perception - insects aren't really color-coded the way fruits and flowers are, and a wild-type leo has more pattern than color. I'd wager they wouldn't need to see as many shades of color. But that's just a guess. If they do see color, they'd probably see it better in the dark. I guess I could just look it up. :laugh4:

Hm -
....In addition, geckos share a common trait with other reptiles in that their retinas contain photoreceptors that are able to detect different wavelengths, including that of UV, so allowing them to have a colour vision (Kaplan, 2003).
