It isn't 100% necessary. Most females will start ovulating when the time is right. If you want to induce the season 1 way is cooling, another way is introducing the Male for a day then taking him out. Then to put him back in when she starts ovulating.

I've only had to use that method 2 times. For one of my girls it took her about a month and a half to ovulate, the other one was 3 weeks later she was ready.
