CORN SNAKE HEAT MAT

IVE GOT AN ALL GLASS TANK THATS 6FT, DO I HAVE TO TAPE THE HEAT MAT TO THE BACK OV THE TANK FOR A CORN SNAKE ? CUS THATS WAT THE BLOKE FROM MY LOCAL PET SHOP RECONS. I THOUGHT THEY GOT HEAT THROUGH THEIR UNDERSIDE, HENCE WHY THEY BASK ON HOT ROADS. IVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND MY P/SHOP OWNER SED ITS ALL WRONG. I THINK HE`S THE ONE WHO NEEDS TO DO HIS RESEARCH, IF IM WRONG AND HE,S RIGHT OR VICE VERSA THEN PLEASE LET ME NO CAUSE IM NOT WILLING TO TAKE ADVICE OR BUY ANYTHING FROM SOMEONE WHO CLEARLEY DOES`NT NO THERE HOLE FROM THERE ELBOW. IVE BEEN TO THE LOCAL LIBRARY AND IVE GOT THE BOOKS AT MY HOUSE NOW AND HE,S PRACTICALLY SAYING THAT, THATS ALL WRONG DO YOU THINK HE,S ONLY AFTER A SALE AND AINT REALLY BOTHERD IF MY SET UP IS CORRECT ? The back of the snake or the bottom of the tank - it doesn't matter as long as the air temp. is warmer on one side. You need to make sure that you have a therm. to monitor how hot the heat mat gets on the warm side - a cornsnake that is laying on a heat spot that is too hot can burn itself.

EDIT: I personally like the heat mat on the bottom of the tank, so thats what I recommend. Of course you still need to monitor it.
