corn snake tongue hanging out

I have a 12 year old corn snake that I raised from a hatchling. I have kept reptiles for 20+ years and have never seen one that couldn't retract its tongue. The snake's tongue has been hanging out for about 3 days and seems to be swollen. I have attempted to keep it moistened since I discovered this condition. Has anyone seen this before and is there a common treatment? The snake was able to eat and you can see the tongue quiver as if the snake is trying to move it.

i have not heard anything like that??.... maybe its mouth rot?

Get it to a vet as soon as possible. That's very strange.

I read on a thread somewhere with a snake that had gotten a piece of substrate stuck in the snakes tongue and it gotten mouth rot to the point where the tongue ended up falling off. Not a good situation if it was to really happen.

Be sure to get him to a vet asap.
