couple of questions

ive had my gecko about 3 weeks and all is good, i went over all the care sheets in here but have a couple more questions.

it seems that my gecko has no interest in mealworms and now uses his mealworm dish as his toilet (which is much easier to clean this way so thats great). Anyway he doesnt like mealworms but loves the crickets, however he seems to be scared of me.....when I come in the room and he is walking around his terrarium he runs in to his hide. To feed him i have to drop a few crickets near his hide and the ones that run in to the hide immediately get snatched up by him. A few crickets run off and hide behind the water dish or somewhere though, so my first question is - is it ok to leave a couple of crickets in over night? Or should I just throw a few in, then remove the ones that arent eaten? I heard that crickets can nibble and pester geckos and shouldnt be left in there is this true or myth?

And secondly, since he seems to be a bit scared of me even after 3 weeks will this improve if I handle him regularly? I've read conflicting information across the net about how often you should handle your gecko....some say that regular handling is good and builds up the trust in your gecko, and others say that geckos prefer to be left alone and you shouldnt handle your gecko often? Which is correct? And how can I help him to be less nervous so that he is happy to be picked up rather than run away from me :p

thanks

If your gecko doesn't like to be handled then just don't handle it unless transferring him for tank cleaning or pre-shed soaking. As for the meal worms, have you tried holding one with tweezers and letting it wiggle infront of its face?

crickets left overnight will stress a gecko.Do not leave any unwanted crickets in the enclosure overnite.once he gets used to you,you can handle him as often as u like

I guess I'm lucky. Mine loves to be held. He'll sit on my shoulder for an hour while I'm on the computer. He'll move from one shoulder to the other.

Some geckos will warm up to their human, and enjoy regular interaction. Some won't. Some of mine like to be petted on the head but would rather not be picked up. No big deal. They all have their own personality.

ok thanks, so I take it that when people here feed their geckos crickets they drop a few in and wait say 10mins, and then take out any uneaten ones?

ive left mealworms in front of his hide wiggling around before and he ignored them but when i nudged a couple of crickets in his hide he yumed em up :p

i guess i will just keep taking him out every couple of days an holding him and hope he gets more tame.

oh and I forgot to ask.....is it ok to give him a bath in warm shallow water now and then ?

A bath is OK yes, but not really needed unless there is problems with digestion etc.

Yeah warm soaks now and then are good for them. Especially if they're about to shed. It also can help aid in digestion and help them poop if they're backed up. They aren't required or anything though.
