well i keep mine in a 10 gallon tank and a tight fitting lid so there are no escapes. i have paper towles as a substrate, you need to give them plenty of space to hide such as egg cartons and paper town rolls. For food i give cricket food and some cat food. for water i give regular water crystals and some potatoe or carrot. I also find that if you give them a heat soruce like low watt heat lamp they will live longer.

Well here goes, hope I don't get in trouble. To the powers that be this is not a dig at advertising :)

This is my site I posted this information on crickets to try and help others. I no longer work with crickets, the foul little creatures. I have since started with roaches. They work out so much better for me. Do let me know if you have any questions and tell me what you think of the howto :main_yes:

Good info site Rich. I too used to raise crix when I bred Jackson's Chameleons. You can keep them in a rubbermaid or similar tub with a screened top (i cut out a portion and hot-glued a window screen to it). Along with a main source of food/protein (i.e. chicken feed, holistic dog/cat food) and veggies, throw in some alfalfa pellets too, and replace the veggies when they get moldy. For cleaning the cricket enclosure- you'll need another tub to put the buggers in, and only used hot water (maybe a pinch of soap) to clean. I stopped raising crix as well as the little stinkers would escape occasionally and to this day we still find stray crickets once and a while (they get flushed down the toilet, hehe, as who knows what they've gotten into).
here's a photo of my old cricket tub (now it's a roach tub):

The better nutrition your crickets receive, the more nutritious they will be for your gecks. I have a nice terrarium setup just for my crickets. I put down lots of paper towels and feed them tons of great foods like fresh orange sections, fresh potatoes, fresh washed greens, vitamin color enriched tropical fish food in a dish (which they love!). and other assorted fruits and veggies. My gecks love them and their colors are spectacular so it makes a big diff to take good care of your crickets.
You are what you eat.

BTW, I use Permium Crickets and I have found them to be excellent for feeders.
