I have been thinking about getting this, is it even worth it?

Is there a better place to get crickets then the pet store? Cheaper?

I had it for awhile but it's much easier to take a small plastic container (like the kind you get mealworms in), put supplements in, dump in the crickets and shake (holding your hand over the top). Crickets are much cheaper in bulk mail order than at the pet store but if you only have one gecko it can be a bit too much. One thing to try is to get 1/2" or 3/4" crickets so they can be around for a few weeks and grow before they die.

to me no, you can get a piece of just about anything and the crix will hide in it, a deli cup with a small hole in the top, a pvc tube with the end taped over, etc. depends on what you want and what you want it to look like and cost.

you can spend less and get the same effect.

i bought one. it worked well as far as the crickets finding their way out one at a time, but it's been sitting in my spare 10 gallon tank for the past several months. after i tried crickets the first time i decided never to bother with them again unless it was a case of buying 3 or 4 at a time and throwing them all in at once. they're evil little things.

if you actually feed crickets regularly though want mine i'll cut you a good deal it and a medium magnetic reptile den that i replaced with a larger one...

I had one of those and it was the biggest pain in the butt. My parents got it for me when I had my first anole so luckily I didn't waste my money on it (hee hee). Getting the crickets in that thing was a nightmare. I ended up just getting one of those cricket keepers and feeding them crickets like that. (I have bug phobia and refuse to touch them) As for good cricket deals check out some small pet stores that aren't chains. You can normally get some good deals from them.

Thanks. Good to know not to waste my money. I hate to touch these things and thought this might be a easy way to handle that. Guess not!

where can you buy them in bulk mail?
Anything else a good idea to keep these crickets alive? I was thinking of the Kricket Keeper or buying a plastic container (with drilled holes in the lid) and putting paper towel cardboard tubes in there with the gut food.
We have 2 geckos
thanks!

I've tried it but I don't get crickets that often. It works ok if you use crickets a lot.

I get my crickets for 15 for a dollar. Most of my leopard geckos eat mealworms and I am trying to get my 2 new rescues to eat mealworms now.
I think that cricket thing would be a waste of money. I use a critter Keeper for my crickets and feed them squash, lettece, carrots potatoes and gutload.

Kricket Keepers work great but mine got to be a pain to clean out those tubes. I like your idea with the paper towel tubes because they're disposible. My only concern is the crickets may eat they tube and escape as I've seen how they can demolish cardboard. What I do for mine is just keep them in a normal kritter cage and use feeding tongs to grab them and feed them individually to my geckos. I have more control over the amount given to the geckos and no tubes to clean.

I was given one of those rock things for Christmas last year. I have tried it out, but I did not find it helpful for feeding my gecko. So it sits in it's box inside a spare tank that I keep my extra gecko supplies in.

I use a ten gallon aquarium to house crickets, with egg cartons for them to climb on, dog food, home made gut load, and vegetables for them to eat, and a cotton-filled water dish. To get the crickets out of the tank, usually I just grab them, but if they are little and I don't want to accidentally squish them, I will take a single-serving sized plastic yogurt container, cut the rim off of it, and use it as a scoop. I usually vitamin or calcium powder them in a similar cup before feeding them to my geckos.

This is what i use. If I put in 12 crickets it usually takes over an hour for all them to get out. This way he can get everyone. Its just a deli container upside down and a hole in the middle.

Now that is a really good idea . . . one of the best I've seen in a long time!

I built a short slick wall along one end of my tank that I use to coral the crickets while my girl is chasing them down, but I still have to watch them, or they will climb over the wall, and I will still have to go on a cricket hunt.

Your idea is similar to the move the gecko into a feeding tank idea, except that you don't have to move the gecko, so I'm sure it is a lot less stressful.

My guess is that by choosing a container with very slick sides, or by putting packing tape around the hole, the only way for them to escape would be by making a perfect straight up jump out of the hole, or by climbing on the leo to get out, neither of which you can solve and still make the gecko able to go and come as he pleases. Still, I think it's the best cricket feeding solution I've seen yet! Thanks for sharing.

Ya they still get out but it takes them time and my gecko is always waiting for them. I usually still get 1-2 that hide and they either get found by me or him

http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0oGklqFR...plies/kritter-keepers-and-cricket-containers/ this has a pic of a cricket keeper. in my opinion it works best because the tubes make it easy to catch them and put them back after feedings. also its very easy to keep clean just take the tubes out with the crickets in it. very very helpful house with a tray for food etc, i have a large and a small so i can house different sizes. i hate other containers such as the ready to go crickets with the food already in it. those are a pain to put the crickets back into and i never leave my crickets to roam a tank for more than a hour.
