i have a kind of odd question...i know that most of you use cricket water gel stuff, and i was wondering if anyone knows what exactly it is made out of. I have access to some polyacrylamide crystals, and i think they are the same thing, but i don't want to harm my gecko by using them. The bottle says "not expected to be a health hazard" but that they also should not be swallowed. DO you guys think i am safe to use them as a source of water for my crix??

Lots of folks use polyacrylamide crystals as a moisture source for crickets. I've been doing it for several cricket generations now with no ill effects. I've raised crickets using water dishes with various methods to prevent drowning, and I can tell you the water gel is a substantial improvement.

so all i need to do is put some soaked crystals in their water dish?? that would be so much easier then wetting their sponge all the time, plus it should be less nasty.

You got it. No more drowned crickets!

Why not try Fluker's cricket quencher?
It's made for crix, and not only provides moisture, but nutrients and
calcium too :main_yes:
It's also readily available at any pet store.

I've been using the stuff since they put it on the market :D

Use carrots, potato or apple for them (apple can get messy and attract fruitflies though).

They seem to appreciate it. I've been supplying it by pouring it on the lid of a mealworm container left on top of the bedding. Tried the same with superworms but they started to eat the lid.
