How do you catch a cricket to take its back legs off? I have tried and they escape, because of course, they still have their back legs. Any hints?

Brains and tweezers, mostly! You can outwit them, trap 'em in a corner, and then hold them down with tweezers while you use another pair to take the legs off.

Well I had the tweezers ready, but just one pair. Guess I'll give it another try and try to hold a cricket down with something while attempting.

Thanks.

I first catch them by a leg with a tweezers then drop them in a small dixie cup. Then I proceed to catch them by a jumping leg, get a firm grip with the tweezers and wedge them against the side of the cup with a Qtip and take off the legs one at a time. This does not seem to hurt them and they live just fine. Remove both jumping legs and one side leg and they just crawl around. This makes it MUCH easier for your leos to grab them. You can also put them in a shallow feed dish like that so the leos can eat them during the night.
Works out great.

i grab them with my hand , grab the "thigh" part and smash it between my fingers... the leg usually pops right off.

Ya'll afraid to grab a little harmless cricket bare handed? :p

I catch them by hand as well. I've noticed if I give a good pinch to the knee joint the leg usually drops right off.

I start by catching the crickets from the tub with a paper towel roll, then put them into a bag to dust them. From there I just pick them out by hand and pluck the legs off.
